Our story is rooted in years of geological research and a commitment to setting the standard for slate in the UK.
The Mont Azul range is the culmination of decades of research that began at the world-renowned Camborne School of Mines. Following the decline of tin mining in Cornwall in the 1980s, our founders applied their deep geological expertise to the world of natural slate. In the mid-20th century, as the UK’s native slate quarries became depleted, the market shifted towards man-made alternatives.
The subsequent import of Spanish slate in the ’70s and ’80s brought both opportunity and confusion.
Mont Azul was founded to cut through this uncertainty, establishing a brand synonymous with clarity, consistency, and rigorously tested quality. We are dedicated to providing a roofing solution that is not only beautiful and durable but also inherently sustainable. We ensure every slate meets the highest standards, giving architects and developers complete confidence with products that adhere to the stringent demands of the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

Natural Slate Supply Ltds, mission is to provide the UK construction industry with a truly long-term roofing solution through natural Spanish slate, supplied responsibly and without compromise.
We believe the most sustainable building material is one you only install once, which is why we work exclusively with hand-split slate that requires minimal processing, carries a low carbon footprint, and lasts for over a century.
Our approach is direct, expert, and personal: as a small, experienced team, we manage every step from quarry selection and quality control in Spain to logistics, delivery, and technical suitability for the British climate. By combining deep geological knowledge with total accountability, we ensure that the most sustainable choice is also the highest-quality one.
Green with low carbon footprint
The Mont Azul Slates are one of the oldest and greenest roof coverings with a very low carbon footprint when compared to other roof coverings, including manmade materials. Their long lifespan helps further reduce the carbon footprint.
The Mont Azul slates do not require any other material or resource to create them. They are tectonically created and abundant in the earth’s crust. Long term depletion is not an issue.
- The slates are completely eco-friendly, contain no harmful chemicals. They do not cause long term land neutralisation or pollute the air causing climate change.
- The slates have a very high roof covering life span further massively reducing their
carbon footprint. - The Mont Azul Slates can be recycled and re-purposed to further extend their life.
- Naturally produced with human hand intervention, they are extracted efficiently from
the earth’s crust with no loss of land surface area. - Produced with minimal use of energy and water. Uses localised ground water returning
it back at the point of extraction. - Environmentally recoverable extraction points. Can be turned into freshwater lakes or
utilised for Agriculture.

The Mont Azul slates are produced from genetically, durable and unique rocks to provide 4 reliable grades of consistent and repeatable slates.
